Remarkable charges that several teachers in the Wadlelgh High school ln West One Hundred and Fourteenth 6treet have used their positions to increase their Incomes through unnecessary private tutoring p.re being formulated, according accord-ing to the World. Parents of some of the girl students assert that $50 has been extracted from students. It being Intimated that the markings were being tampered with. The school is a public institution. Most of the pupils prepare for the Teachers Training school. The course was recently lengthened by the Board of Education from three to four years. Unless they can get their certificates cer-tificates at the, school they are compelled com-pelled to take a course ln the State Normal school and later pass a difficult diffi-cult examination. An Investigation privately made by the father of one girl whose "backwardness" "back-wardness" ln algebra required private tutorship, indicated, he said, that of 3200 pupils, 10 per cent have been declared de-clared "backward" in Eome 6tudy and pay on an average of $1.75 an hour for "private" tutoring.
