V ' I ' Carl Marshpll, charged in a formal complaint with . havir. criminally assaulted as-saulted Helen Hunt, 13 years old, was in Police court this morning, dressed in the khaki suit that he was brought back to the' city in. by. Chief of Police Lynch, Saturday night. Marshall was not arraigned on the charge, .but will probably face the court this afternoon. Marshall was . arrested at noam Saturday Sat-urday at Minidoka, Ida. He made no attempt to conceal his Identity, . but after starting for the city, suddenly remembered re-membered that he was not compelled to return without a requisition. He however, did not insist that the formal papers be prepared, but came peaceably peace-ably with a pair of handcuffs on hi wrists. ' i . Chief of .Police Lynch had understood under-stood from the messages received from Minidoka, where Marshall had been seen by the police, that the man was under arrest. He was surprised when he arrived there to learn that Marshall had ,not been arrested. He proceeded at once to the Government dam at Minidoka, Min-idoka, where he found Marshall at work, and arrested him. ' Marshall objected to the handcuffs, but Chief Lynch .told him that it would be better for, him to have the "bracelets" "brace-lets" on than to run" chances on being shot Marshall told Chief Lynch that he had beaten his way from Salt Lake to Minidoka, and that there he had pawned His clothing. and a watch, and had purchased a khaki suit, .and had gone to. work on the Government dam. , At Pocatello, Marshall tried to induce Chief Lynch to take him to the restaurant restaur-ant hear the depot for dinner. Chief Lynch thought to save, time, and possibly pos-sibly trouble, refused to allow Marshall i to leave ,the train, and 1 dinner wa served in the dining-car. . ,,- . On ; the way down. Marshall Is said to have devoted some of his 'time, to abusing his wife, claiming that sire was responsible for his trouble, Mrs. Mar-shall, Mar-shall, at the time the crime charged to Marsha'U was discovered,:, notified the" police that the crime had been committed, com-mitted, it is said. . t , . Yesterday Mrs. Marshall - consulted with Attorney Soren X. Chrlstensen and engaged his services' , to defend Marshall. |
