Show BURLINGTON TO BUILD TO SALT LAKE; DOUBT Of INTENTION REMOVED . Confirming reports printed in these columns some days since, comes the telegraphedStatement from Omaha, Neb., that General Manager Holdredge of the Burlington has officially announced the purpose of the 0 directors of that road to build to Salt Lake, in order to capture Its share of the business of Wyoming and Utah, and of the territory adjacent to California. To do so, 800 miles .of road will at once be constructed; further, some 250 miles of road are to be built In Nebraska, in order to make first-class connection for the Salt Lake extension with Missouri river points. This means a new connection for Salt Lake with the Missouri river, with Chicago, with the East. It means that Wyoming Is to be vigorously developed; that Salt Lake is to have a largeyl increased tributary country. The surveyors are already on the ground; they are north of Chey- enne, with instructions to verify the survey made some years ago be- tween Guernsey and Bait Lake; to find feeders to this line. Nor is this all: The Burlington intimates that this 800 miles of road is not the full meed of building to be undertaken. The line determined upon is practically from Bridgeport. Neb., down the Platte river to North Platte, thence paralleling the Union Pacific to Kearney or a point south of Kearney, on the south side of the Platte river. The name of the Burlington's latest offspring will be the Nebraska, Wyoming & Western railway. W S |
