Show SCHOOLS CLOSE FOR CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS Practically every school In the city held final exercises before the Christmas holiday holi-day yesterday. In some of the schools the exercises were of a simple character, consisting of a short programme appropriate appro-priate to the season. In other schools the affair was elaborate in character. In the Lafayette, the kindergarten tots were the guests of the eighth grade and each child was presented with a box of candy before leaving the building. At the Training school the second grade gave a dinner, the cooking of which was done by members of the class. One boy in the Lincoln school had made a personal canvasa of the district and found out how many poor Children there were In the district. A box of candy was secured for each poor child and the youngster and his, helpers from the school distributed them during the afternoon. The exercises at the High school were the finept aver given at that school. Tha assembly room was handsomely decorated deco-rated with the school' colors and Christ mas evergreens. The programme, under' the direction of the senior class, was a most Interesting one. At St. Mary's academy a vocal and. instrumental in-strumental programme of high order was presented.. The last words of each pupil as he or she left . their school was. "A . Merry Christmas to All." . v |
