Show BITTERNESS IS RAGING Utah Natipnal Guard affairs still have a cloud resting over themt which is liable to break at any moment, it is Bald. Although the fire of bitterness has been somewhat smothered for the past few weeks, it is said that it is now raging more stubbornly than ever. Secrecy has been a great feature in the affairs of the last three weeks. Although Al-though an order was Issued Saturday for' a special election to choose a Colonel for the First regiment, it did not become generally known until yesterday. yes-terday. Ueut.-Col. H. M. H. Lund, who Is at present commanding the regiment, 1 spoken of as the most prominent candidate for the place. Another surprise that was sprung yesterday was the resignation of Capt. William C. Webb, fcommander of the First battery, and one of the best known military men of the State. Since 1894 he has been actively connected with the guard of Utah. Capt. Webb tendered his resignation Wednesday and the same was promptly passed upon and acecpted. No reasons were assigned for his action, and he now refuses to talk of the matter. |
