Show Shotguns End Holdup Attack On Paymaster Two Supposed Bandits Seriously Wounded as Guards on Board Auto Carrying $20,000 Open Fire in Street BAN FRANCISCO, Oct. T (By A. P.) Two men were shot and seriously wounded and two others ara believed to have been wounded when members of a police shotgun squad riding in in automobile of the lairy Delivery company frustrated what waa believed be-lieved to be an attempt to rob the company'! paymaster. The car waa carry in $20,000 from a bank to the company' office. The car waa crowded to the curb by a machine containing four men and the police opened fire. Two men Martin McGowan and Kdward Stewart, Stew-art, were aerlouety won nded and two others Jumped from the automobile and ran. The police continued firing !at them and it la believed they were hit The men, the police ealfUwere holding- up another automobile when the dairy company'! car approached, and the first holdup discontinued and the company's car was run down. The shooting occurred at Kighth and How-! ard streets, two blocks from one of the busiest sections of the city. |
