Show , Stop. Look, Listen! . j A CALIFORNIA man who has seen 1 hundred years of life declares that battlefields are safer for careless Individuals than street crossings. This centenarian sounds a timely warning to all people who use the streets. He indicates the Importance of a spry step a quick eye and an alert mind for the fellow who would protect his life and limbs. Ordinarily the streets are not dangerous places.- It is the carelessness of the people who use them that Increases the accident hazard. Stop, look, listen! This warning is posted on nearly every railroad crossing. The advice Is sound. Those who have heeded it have not been caught on the tender of the train. Many who have defied de-fied it have gone to premature graves, or become cripples for life The same advice Is applicable to the street crossing. Protection against the accident hazard of the street is largely dependent upon the individual in-dividual who is most concerned. It is true that he may have sacred rights on the highways, but if he takes it for granted that he is always going to get them, he may have no further use for them. Stop, look and listen! It will not delay you much and it may save you a visit to the hospital or the undertaker. |
