TRUMAN PROCLAIMS WEEK OF JULY 20-26 AS NATL FARM SAFETY WEEK Governor Maw by proclamation proclama-tion also calls upon the citizens ol the state of Utah to observe Farm Safety Week "as a spearhead spear-head to a year-round program and requests all persons and or- : ganiations concerned with agriculture agri-culture and farm life to cooperate in the observance of this fourth annual farm safety week." Ned H. Dearborn, president of the National Safety Council, states that "the farm has the greatest work accident toll. Re-; cords indicate that twenty-five farm residents per 100,000 died in farm accidents in 1946. Records Re-cords also show that an occupa-tional occupa-tional accident happens every ; year on one OUt of every 20 farms In the nation. It is estimated that the total time lost through farm accidents in a typical year costs the time needed to produce the entire annual wheat crop of the United States. Agriculture has more accidental work deaths than 'any other major industry. Farm fire losses alone total $90,000,000 annually. These figures need no ' analysis. They only explain in cold dollars and sacrificed lives, a part of the results of one year's Carelessness on the American farm.
