I do not kno know that I 1 ever evel heard ot of any heathen people worshipping a spring Why I 1 do not know I hays hays' read of of nymphs and such things ha haunting springs but I do not recall an any case where a a. spring was worshipped Just why I cannot tell It seems to tome tome me that It If I 1 were a heathen man and hunting for tor something to worship I should consider very favorably as a good candidate To be sure there Is the sun which i 1 the source of f all power and the mountain which stands stands' for gr at strength and other objects ot of nature that are apparently symbols ot of the divine to say nothing ot of otan an egg which perhaps Is the most wonderful of all alln n tre as It contains the secret ot of growth But the spring Is so manifestly other othel worldly It just comes out ot of the ground where It has no business and everything e about It comes to Ute life You rou see a spring on the hillside gush forth from froma a fissure in the rock Weeds and lilies lilies lilies' grow In Inthe inthe the rivulet that Is formed and even trees spring up about It Men and animals tome lome to refresh them them- of Its Va vaters ers It Is so manifestly a source ot of life lite Then It is eternal In a way I remember seeIng seeing see see- Ing a spring behind the old castle at Heidelberg The castle had been destroyed but the spring w ws s babbling just as fresh p is before before they bega to build the castle Some folks are lII like e springs When they enter the circle everybody picks up They are life lICe makers conversation and thought producers They stimulate all our nerve Why hy I do no not know They may not be particularly pretty or shapely or Intellectual They just have i bout them that sets people going Most ot of us are dead ones lying around like old slabs or of dead earth One Of bf these spring people comes along and grass and flowers Immediately appear ap ap- pear and the desert blooms like a rose What Is It I suppose these people are Imbued with a surplus sOur sOur- sur- sur plus ot of life What we nil all want Is life lite It may tale take talea a thousand forms and ways wars ot of lon but substantially sub sub- It Is aU ali the same Gnaw my withers rack my bones Life LiCe mere life lite for all atones Co Copyright McClure Newspaper Syndicate |
