Show JACK STRA WS j By Jack Schroeder 0 f A. A k A Look in Retrospect undo a Shudder If yoU Y ou were e ever ver to review been on been it would the things thines that ml mig g 11 have change the ultimate nant races meaning of a lot of pennant pennant pen pen- All season better authorities on ba baseball than us have tried to discover what was wrong with the Salt Lake Bees They y advanced advanced ad ad- every possible reason and yet not one of them seemed to fill the bill They blamed the players the manager the month away from home and a host of other things but none seemed to be the answer It was rather a lot of little things that added together until it was was' built into a monster that was to destroy the pennant hopes of the Buzzers And they were never nver able to recoup A check heck of the records shows that the Bees have lost a total of 61 ball games They went down to defeat 30 times time's b by Y the scantiest of margins margins just just one run This may well be a Pioneer League record if such statistics were kept Lets Let's Just Suppose for Sake of Discussion That means that Salt Lake has won 54 games while losing 61 Suppose for a moment that they had split even in those run one-run losses which losses which would mean 15 more wins in the victory column and 15 less on the deficit side of the ledger If such were the case the Salt alt Lake Bees would be leading the Pioneer League Tuesday But as it is they're still in sixth place three and a half games out of fourth It wouldn't be impossible for the Bees finally to wind up in the first division But they've never displayed the kind of tenacity that is typical of a good ball club to carry them past the mark and into fourth place A lot can happen in the few remaining games The Bees could convince themselves that they arent aren't a good ball club and just play out the season hoping they wont won't fall farther than sixth They Owe It to Their Own Baseball Futures Or they could f feel el they owe it to their own careers and am their own futures to give a little something extra and try tomake t to tomake make the first division And if they were really going to take the whole thing in a serious vein they could repay the debt they owe Eddie Leishman for unparalleled loyalty and give their finest effort Their attitude toward these particular things will most likely decide where they are going to finish in the circuit Wyoming's Backfield Comes Up for Discussion I Everyone arou around d the Skyline Eight Football Conference is anxiously awaiting the looks of the University of Wyoming backfield It will find brilliant running back Harry Geldien at right half and young Chuck Spaulding at left half In addition John Peters once destined for greatness will be holding down the fullback post Skyline coaches are so fearful of this particular aggregation aggregation aggregation tion that they are already mentally experimenting with defensive setups to stop the attack It should be one of the best looking backfield aggregations ever to appear in the league Its It's Worth the Price of Admission It will be worth the price of admission to see the timers old-timers in action Tuesday night at Derks Field This group of baseball stars may have lost their stamina stamina and their batting eye but not a one of them has lost his desire or love for the game When you consider the fact that Paul Strand will play in the affair it should add some luster to the battle Strand still holds two minor league records records one one for the most hits in one on-e one season and the other for the most putouts So take a trip to Derks Tuesday and see these former greats in action You wont won't be sorry if you do |
