Show Retailers to Study to Token Elimination The Utah Council of Retailers holding holding holding hold hold- ing their annual session in Salt Lake City the other day discussed with Patrick Healy Jr state tax commission chairman the problems of sales tax collection collection collection col col- lection and the possibility of a change which would eliminate use of tokens No decision was reached at the meeting meeting meeting meet meet- ing but the retailers voted for a study of the sales tax collection system with the view of establishing a bracket system system system tem of collection such as is used in inmany inmany inmany many other sales tax states which would be fair both to the merchant and to the consumer This is a commendable decision on the the part of the retailers who previously have been reluctant to even consider such a collection system for fear it might impose an added tax burden upon the merchant Utah consumers are strongly in favor of a change in the collection system which would eliminate the nuisance of tax tokens but not because of any desire to avoid paying the tax There has been sufficient experience with the bracket system of sales tax collection collection collection col col- lection in other states to enable Utah to formulate a system which will be fair both to the merchant and the consumer We Ve hope as a result of their study the retailers come up with a proposal which will make possible the elimination of tax tokens in Utah |
