Show Too Many Unsold Christmas Trees This apparently was one of Salt Lake City's worst years from the standpoint t of overstocking of Christmas trees There Ther e were unsold trees on almost every to lot t the day after Christmas looking Christmas looking incidentally incidentally incidentally inci inci- dentally as forlorn as only an unwanted Christmas tree can look the day after the holiday Some have argued that high prices were responsible for the situation but this hardly holds water In the first place prices were no higher than in thelast thelast the thelast last few previous years ears And in the second place everyone who wanted a Christmas tree certainly could have had t 1 A- A one at some same price price price-in in fact on Christmas eve trees were being given away No there were just too many Christmas Christmas Christs Christ- Christ mas s trees brought in Just how many many extra trees there were we do not know but there must have been several thousand thousand thousand and unsold and many of them were native trees from Utah or other parts of this intermountain region That is a waste of valuable watershed- watershed protecting trees we can ill afford Even if there were no monetary loss to vendors the economic waste is such that special efforts should be made to see that next year the Christmas tree supply and demand demand demand de de- mand are held in closer balance |
