Where Does All Allone the Money Come one From An official report on the campaign expenditures of the different political parties required under the Hatch clean poli politics cs act was released the other day It showed that the Democrats the Republicans Republicans Republicans Republicans' Re Re- publicans publicans' and the Progressives were all going into the red on their political expenditures up to Sept 1 this year year year- that is they were spending more than they were taking in This was interestIng interesting interest interest- ing rig but it was far from being the mos most t Interesting point revealed by the report Most interesting was the huge political political po expenditure listed by the ne ne w Progressive party This relatively sma smal L and supposedly weak third party spent in eight months of 1948 a total of compared to an expenditure by bythe bythe bythe the Democratic party in the same period of and by the Republican party of So the Republican party supposedly party supposedly according to the Progressive orators the party of Wall Vall street and big wealth had had less money to spend than the Progressives Pro Pro- supposedly supposedly the party of the common man That doesn't seem to make sense unless unless unless un un- less somebody behind the scenes is putting putting putting put put- ting up the money for the Progressive campaign It would be interesting to know just who is financing the Progressive sive party in such generous fashion that it can spend out-spend the Republican party and come close to matching Democratic expenditures to date
