| Show JACKSTRAWS JACKSTRAWS JACK JACKSTRAWS STRAWS V By Jy Jack Schroeder A k haired knotty little guy asked us s the other day who we thought the ie best basketball players in the state tate ate were That seemed almost too oo easy as we quickly rattled off oU he the the names of Vern Gardner and Arnie Ferrin I Everybody knows knows' they're good Y I mean high school players he retorted retorted re- re with a sarcastic tinge In his voice oice After five ive minutes tes of tion-It tion ion It always takes takes us us that long to j make the transition to a new thought we taught we named those players that hat we had seen and were certain would be up for some some same sort of all- all state consideration come next spring V This guy writes the names down down perhaps perhaps for posterity's sake and we we became afraid that they might b be loosed upon erring ears ean Perhaps a second hand re report report report re- re port would be distorted and the wrong connotation could easily eully be had if It not spoken correctly Although preseason play may not be the perfect criterion upon which to judge the ability of players it has given us a a. fair picture picture pic pie ture of ot the potentialities s of these youthful lads S So that all may maysee see here herc are the best basketball players we we have seen seen een in action this season It is Js by byno byno no means a complete list for there are many outstanding preps we have only read about Bert Cook forward W Weber ber Here is one one of the more brilliant players players' in prep ranks ranks- this season Ve We are not being facetious by use of the word brilliant Cook has everything to make a good player speed height scoring ability and does considerable rebounding He Isan Isan is isan an important cog in Webers Weber's fine team cam Bob Nish center Bear River River- This guy pla plays S the center position the he the way It should be played He is 6 4 but his best attribute is his shiftiness and his craftiness at fakIng fak- fak lag Ing ng makes him a dangerous man It If f he continues to hustle he may maye be e a great college prospect S S Don none Bone center West Its It's Its It's more more than difficult to pick the best player on this West est team It probably w would uld be more logical to choose all of ot the first six and th then n no one would be offended But Bone despite his medium height depicts to us us' the hustle vigor and heart rt of the P Panthers and just never gives up Hes He's a areal areal areal real competitor Glen Nielsen guard East- East Nielsen is definitely a polished player He Is the of the East team and gets more moro out of ot the guard position than most guys gUS of at his size Hes He's due for a good year Bill Jackson guard South South- Heres Here's another working smooth-working guard d.
