It is a n one 1 of skills which teach a boy to develop good character and the value of good citizenship. On be-! be-! coming a scout a boy learns the scout law and takes an oath on his honor to carry out that oath j I to the best of his ability. The I scout law is the greatest character charac-ter building creed known to the world and consists of twelve parts: ! 1. A Scout Is Trustworthy A scout's honor is to be trusted. trust-ed. If he were to violate his hon-I hon-I or by telling a lie or by cheating, ed to be chivalrous and manner- ly at all times. 6. A Scout Is Kind-He Kind-He is a friend to animals. He j will not kill nor hurt any living I creature needlessly, but will strive to save and protect all harmless life. Man is willing to take animal companionship and the fun the animal affords in the hunt, but in his eagerness, his nature becomes too brutal. Not I so the scout, his job is to protect j and if he has to kill, he will not kill wantonly. 7. A Scout Is Obedient He obeys his parents, scoutmaster, scout-master, patrol leader and all other oth-er duly constituted authorities. j Our country became great because be-cause it's leaders obey the greatest great-est creed of them all, our Con- ' stitution. 8. A Scout Is Cheerful-He Cheerful-He smiles whenever he can. j His obedience to orders is prompt i and cheery. He never shirks nor grumbles at hardships. "A task I begun is half done". To face a problem cheerfully Is the key to its beginning 9. A Scout Is Thrifty-He Thrifty-He does iVt wantonly destroy I property. He works faithfully, wastes nothing and makes the best of his opportunities. He saves sav-es his money so that he may pay j his own way, be generous to those in need, and helpful to worthy objects. He may work for pay, but must not receive tips for courtesies or good turns. 10. A Seoul Is Brave He has the courage to face danger in .spite of fear, and to stand up for the right against the coaxings of friends or the jeers or threats of enemies, and defeat does not down him. 11. A Scout Is Clean He keeps clean in body and thought, stands for clean speech, clean sport, clean habits and tra-1 vels with clean crowd. He is polite to all, especially to women, children, old people and the weak and helpless. He must i not take pay for being helpful or courteous courtesy in America has become practically a lost art. Anvone driving on our highways i or frequenting public places will readily agree with this phrase. The boy in scouting is encourag- j 12. A Seoul Is Reverent-He Reverent-He is reverent toward God.
