short and must be signed how however y r if t the e writer wishes his name w will be bo withy with with- y held Dear Mr Mooney I have wanted to write writ you ever since the opening day of pheasant season eaon regarding what I call inefficiency of ot our state Fish Fieh and Game department but somehow or other I have not done It After reading your column tonight it amuses amus s me to think that someone would suggest the opening of pheasant J season eason at the midday hour After the pie pheasant sant hunt that the writer experienced on t the e opening day of this year I suggest that the pheasant season eaon be he closed for at least three years yeaTs and that the penalty for any person with pheasants her hen or pr cock dead or alive be so severe that the thc guilty person will remember that the state Fish and Game department department depart depart- ment means wh what t it t says zay and print In fn the form fonn of rules ruIe and laws On the opening day of pheasant season on a very cry Koo good friend of mine and myself decided to enter Davis county for 3 a hunt on the precious birds Wo We arrived In the hunting vicinity west of f FarmIngton FarmIngton Farm- Farm Ington and driving around looking over the tho terrain we counted seven se hunters with cock pheasants strapped to their belts and the time was am a.m. Everywhere E you looked the fields were dominated dominated dominated domi domi- by hunters and wl what at I mean they were hunting It was wa absolutely absolutely absOlutely ridiculous to think that the tho called so-called sportsmen of our state thought thought- We Ve passed one ono would en masse muse for such a lawbreaking law 11 field ld and there were several hunters racing through the area I atop stopped and asked one hunter If he knew what time it was He lie never neer ev e even en n answered me but ejected the shells from his bl gun and tore across ss the field on the d dead ad run mn This was at am a.m. He Jie knew w he was wrong ng 1 A A. little farther down the road we saw two hunters knock down three hen pheasants pheasant They didn't even bother to pick them up But if it any MY other person w would uld pl pick pik k them up and should be caught with them m It ft would be for them to prove their statement that someone neone else shot them These violators should have no right to participate participate participate par par- In this sport One farmer had his place posted and it was as ns nice a posting as ever read It went like this Please I have valuable sheep Mil arid iid livestock tock on my property I ask you not to hunt tnt Five hunters walked up to the sign stopped for a minute then went through the fence and proceeded to hunt right among a herd of about sheep Is that true sportsmanship We sh the farmers farmer's property and respect him I amre am amBure wire Bure re we wey y would ld receive fine e cooperation in r return tum v i In reading thI you might wonder well where were the game wardens wardena I do know that there were two in the vicinity of the earl early shooters But it seemed Seethed to make inako no dirre difference ence X N Xv v after this what would happen if the shooting started at noon noon I t think most anyone could visualize what the tho situation Would be A friend of mine minD was wa stopped b by a warden on returning homo home from a duck hunt Ho Re was was asked the following questions Get any ducks To which the answer was yes Then Ihen how many The answer was vas four Then what kind Two and two pintails That was all aU Never asked d if he be bad had a license or r duck stamp tamp Is that thai all a a. game warden Is for Just to find out what the and Game department is Js hav hay kill to Maybe the state Fish ing trouble to get the proper mount of help But I do llo say lay it c could Ul uld pick a great number of true sportsmen and deputize them for the short season of hunting we have in this state I I have been hunting in this state for 14 years and never once bc been n stopped by a 8 game warden I have belonged to a 8 duck club I for and have never seen never seen a warden at our club And I will wUl add I fellows that some of th these se clubs are getting aw away y with i murder i Maybe all of this cannot be stopped stepped but Ji ut by a a few severe penalties I I Ia a and d a 8 few more checkups Ill I'll vent venture t to s 's say y that the sportsman n will L at least think twice before he violates a a. law The state Fish and Game department should be careful and not make laws that will make the hunter a a violator as they did this year yeas not on pheasant hunting by setting etting the shooting 7 am a.m. A A. Dear John I have hae before me your Sports Mirror Minor column of October SI 81 and appreciate very much your suggestions regarding the setup for professional football on a wide nation-wide scale Last spring all aU of the organ organized ed called so-called minor lea leagues es for form formed d the Assoc Association of ot Professional Football Leagues which included the Dixie league and the American league as well as as' the Pacific Const ast league W vi hope by 3 this to set up up a good st standard 0 of p fo football in tb those communities comm which are not In theN the N National lo league and to protect the people who have invested their money n y and I-d. I are building up professional football as being do done e eIn In ift SIt Salt Lake City I think that this organization will in 10 Inthe the near future succeed In working out some some proposition which Is fair to all aU concerned whereby whereby- protection will be b granted those who are plo pioneering professional aI football and at the Same time give gIe the people Ii In the communities communities' In these leagues leagues' an opportunity to see II high-class high professional football If this comes about I am sure that ideas s li like yours will be carried out and andt as your column was th the first time I have seen anything of this this' sort In pu public lc print prin you can tal take credit for h having vi g publicly proposed the general plan pInn With kindest pers personal nal r regards g I r am ain Un srn U 1 J.
