WHAT TELEGRAM READERS THINK Soldier Has Answer On Compulsory Training Editor Telegram Telegram-A A few days daya ago there appeared in this column column column col col- a letter from Betty Jean Talker Walker in which she violently opposed the proposed measure for national compulsory military military military mili mili- tary training I would like to refer Writer Walker Valker to an article entitled A Soldiers Soldier's Slant on Compulsory Training in the theMay theMay theMay May 19 issue of the Saturday Evening Post This article written by a soldier on the battlefront battlefront battlefront bat- bat answers Writer Walkers Walker's Walkers Walker's Walk Walk- Valker's ers er's dangerous and unsound logic however well it was in intended intended intended in- in tended much better than I can The author of this article admits admits ad ad- mits that he was one of a bunch of foolish college boys who took tooka a pledge never to participate in any war This pledge he points out was largely due to isolationist isolationist isolationist isola isola- propaganda spread by elders After explaining how very foolishly wrong they were he adds I 1 guess we didn't end up as suckers but we ve came awful close I had no doubt but that there would be a clamor for the elimination of mammoth national national national na na- na- na armaments but I am am m a little surprised that it has started start start- ed when the war is only half over Does Writer Walker Valker think for an nn Instant that our allies are arc going to scrap their armaments and disband their armies San Francisco conference or not They would be suckers If they did and so would we if we did such a thing Is there any better better better bet bet- ter insurance for future peace for this nation than to say to our allies We Ve are fully prepared and r ready ady to help you suppress any threat to world peace that may arise I wholeheartedly recommend the above mentioned article to Betty Jean and to all the readers of this column If betty bettyJean bettyJean bettyJean Jean cant can't find a 2 copy of ot the theMay theMay theMay I will send May 19 Post gl glady dy her my my copy D.
