Show May They Serve Us Well ONCE NCE again the American people have gone to the polls and exercised their democratic privilege in selecting a president of the United States They have reelected Franklin D. D Roosevelt to a fourth term That is the decision of the majority of the American people Although it is not certain at this writing how large the presidents president's presidents president's presidents president's dents dent's electoral vote or popular vote majority will be it is certain that he has been reelected by a substantial margin He is the choice of a majority of the American people As that choice he is entitled to the respect of all Americans and in his efforts to defend the nations nation's security and welfare to their support He will be not just the president of the m majority but the president president president dent of ALL Americans This has been a hard-fought hard election In some ways it has been bitter All AH in all however considering the emotional tension tension tension ten ten- sion that always develops in a nation at war it has bas been less disruptive than it might have been It should leave no scars which will not swiftly heal with the closing of the polls and the counting of the ballots It is important that there be no scars All Americans re regardless regardless regardless re- re of their political affiliations or their preferences among the candidates have a job to do which must be placed above partisanship and personalities We Ve have to win this war and and we have to build out of the sacrifice and the wreckage of the thew w war aar r a better world order which will give us at least the hope that we will not have to g go go through once again the travail of war in another 20 or 30 years There is nothing more important to the American people than that We Ve must look to the men who were elected Tuesday to lead us on to victory in the war and to victory in the peace The election is over The decision is made not made not to be changed until another election It makes no difference now which candidates you favored so strongly yesterday All that counts now is that certain men have been elected it is their responsibility responsibility responsibility re re- re- re to serve America May they serve us well May our next president our senators senators senators sena sena- tors and our congressmen our state and county officials accept their victories as a solemn trust May they be honest and sin sin- cere May they be strong in their faith in America zealous in inthe inthe inthe the discharge of their high responsibilities For they have a great obligation to the American people who by their majority vote have bave elected them In their hands has been placed the future of our state and our nation nation and and ever every Utahn and every American regardless of how the they voted yesterday will hope that they guard it well welt |
