Show NOTHING MORE SECURE THAN SAVINGS BONOS George Albert Smith, president of the Church of Jesus Christ ofi Latter Day Saints, in expressing Ills commendation of U. S. Sav-' ings bonds, today stated. " We have nothing more secure in the way of an investment than government gov-ernment bonds." "During the war period," said President Smith, "many people! have manifested their patriotism! and wisdom by purchasing government gov-ernment bonds In many cases the bonds are still being held and are earning Interest for the holder. hold-er. This investment has been a blessing to many people and what they have saved will be useful to them in the future. Some individuals, however, are disposing of their holdings and spending tin n money for unnecessary unnec-essary things, and if hard times come, they may find themselves unable to meet their obligations. "We might learn a lesson from the ant. He harvests his supplies when they are available and stores them up against the day when it would not be possible to obtain them. The result is that his larder is usually well stock- ed. The grasshopper, a much I larger insect, does not operate ! that way. He does not lay up anything in store for hard times, but depends upon providence to provide him what he needs, and . the result is that most grasshop-I grasshop-I pers starve to death "I fear that some human beings be-ings are like the grasshopper and do not take advantage of the op-; op-; portunities that are theirs in a j reasonable way. If they would take a lesson from the ant, they would lay up the food that they need and always have some on hand. "If those who have purchased government bonds will hold them and gain the benefit that results j from possessing them, they will j be wiser than if they dispose of ! their holdings and squander their substance," concluded President Smith. "Surely we have nothing more secure in the way of an investment in-vestment than government bonds President Smith served actively active-ly on the executive committee of the Utah War Finance committee commit-tee during the war, and has long been an ardent advocate of thrift. |
