More Safety Lighting D DESPITE ESPITE r the the war with its restrictions on materials Salt Lake City is going to get its fifth safety lighting project t along l ng Four Fourth h. h South from State Stat to Tenth East street the then winding up the hill on Tenth East and Fifth South to Thirteenth East street Materials which had been frozen by government ord order have now been released and installation of poles and lights will be completed as rapidly as possible This will probably be the last safety lighting project to be completed in the city until after the war as it is extremely unlikely that any additional materials will be avail avail- able We are fortunate however in having so much of our safety lighting program com com com- The ci city's ys y's major traffic arteries willbe will willbe willbe be lighted by bythe the time this newest project is finished Second finished Second West and South State streets the main route north and south through the city East South T Temple mple and East Fourth South streets the two chief crosstown arteries connecting residential l areas on the north and east benches benches' with th the downtown area Twenty-first Twenty South street the major crosstown highway in ill the southern end of f the city and the route fo followed lowed by most traffic from the east There are other important streets which could well stand s safety fety lighting but but at least we have made avery very good start It is a big improvement and should be an important factor in reducing accidents and deaths Without doubt progress on safety lighting is Salt Lake City's biggest although perhaps its only forward step in traffic safety in the past year and a half
