The Robber Has All the Fun TT IT ISN'T often that courts come up against someone lik like Robert 1 E. E Block who appeared in m federal court in Salt Lake City the theother theother theother other day on a charge of passing as an agent of the U U. S. S Indian service I Block who is a Cheyenne Sioux Cheyenne Sioux Indian and well educated I has spent 14 years years years' in state and federal prisons although he is only 40 years of age Asked by Federal Judge Tillman Tiliman D D. Johnson Johnson John John- son lion if h he ever intended to go straight Block replied Frankly no My forefathers were great thieves though they lost their homeland and their hunting grounds to the white man Just what is a judge supposed to do with a fellow like that thata a a criminal a man who prefers to live by his wits mulcting his fellows who candidly agrees hes he's a crook and proud of it Send him to prison you say Well that's all right but in Blocks Block's case prison isn't any punishment Block rather likes prisons He said he was anxious to get back into Leavenworth federal penitentiary It is the only place where white men ever have shown me consideration he said Block is going back all right Judge Johnson sentenced him himI to serve three years But pretty soon Block will be out again I and and hell he'll go blithely right back to his old tricks and the police will chase him finally catch him courts will convict convict con con- vict viet him and send him back baek to o the prison he loves for another brief rest It Its It's like a game of cops and robbers robbers only only it seems in this game the robber has all the fun After a while you'd think the enforcement authorities would get tired of it all and call a halt i by bj rutting putting th the robber behind bars for a permanent rest P 1 d
