L Boards for Place In n Army Ranks I Utah volunteers who would join the military forces under I the selective service program without waiting to be drafted j have passed the thc mark it was reported Friday two Fifty-two vo volunteers have applied applied applied ap- ap plied in the six Salt Lake City local draft boards alone it was announced at state selective service service service ice headquarters Quota Seen Filled All the volunteers have not yet passed physical examinations which were under way Friday in inmost inmost inmost most of the states state's 38 local boards but it appeared the states state's quota of 64 men meD for the November 18 and 19 muster would easily be filled by volunteers Major H. H Arnold Rich acting state director of selective service said it might be that December and January quotas would be filled by volunteers Major Rich said that because of limited time prior to November 18 and the time needed to obtain men through draft procedure every effort was being made by local boards to fill quotas with volunteers Selective service officials pointed point point- ed out that volunteers getting in inon inon i on the ground floor would be beI bethe bethe I the nucleus of the trainee army i and would have better chances of advancement by joining early particularly if they have had R.
