B Ennis of Sedro accompanied by another white man and two Indians was big ing the bed of Cascade creek for tor minerals miner miner- als ala One One- mile from the mouth of the creek the party came across a spot where the force of the current during It the he late freshet had washed away the clay long along the stream Sticking out from the cla clay bank they found a well- well preserved Indian canoe made out of a cedar log and nearly 3 30 feet teet long It projected from the bank about fifteen feet Everything indicates that the canoe had been Imbedded in the bank at least ye years rs Above it was found a a. mass of or cottonwood trees centuries old On top ot of these lay a bank of vines earth between seven and i i eight feet In thickness From this bank has grown cottonwood trees whose rings Show them to be bc more than an two centuries old The canoe was In a state of perfect preservation and plainly shows marks and scars evidently made with blunt Instruments ts probably with stane weapons used by warlike flea nes f ot of centuries ago The canoe will be preserved in ln a L museum In T Tacoma coma 1 or Seattle Seattle San San Francisco Chronicle |
