to guard the old fashioned cameo locket she is wearing Later Fran learns that while she has been dancing her apartment has been ransacked Since nothing has been taken she concludes that the burglar was after the locket Alarmed she rents a safety deposit box and puts the locket in safe keep keep- ing The stranger stops following her A day or two later Fran bumps into Ward Quentin who has just opened a real estate office on the same floor loor where she works She is pleased by his casual friendly interest in her NOW GO ON WITH THE STORY Chapter 6 The reception room in Ward Quentin's Quentin's Quentin's Quen- Quen tins tin's office was small but tastefully furnished A dark walnut desk in one corner orner a typewriter occupying half halt of i it a comfortable armchair behind the over- stuffed chair and an overstuffed couch Three smoking stands On the walls more maps of the city county county coun coun- ty and state and more etchings well chosen Indeed a cozy office yet the girl who was sitting in the overstuffed chair smoking a was frown frown- ing On the right arm of ot the chair was the notebook that she could pick pickup pickup pickup up when the bell rang on the
