Show JUST J 0 1 1 FOLKS OT TI C ly THE TUE CHURCH S SUPPER Theres There's one event in social life which changeless seems to be Year after year year since I was was just a child at mothers mother's knee The supper at the church has has' kept on goodly folks its grip To fashion evenings now arid and then for human fellowship But Buas as it was long years ago I still today Though countless other customs have bave worn out and passed away way Still do the tEe mothers of the block t together gether meet to plan planA A supper that will glad the heart of every hungry hungry hun hun- gry man Still do they bake their pans of beans and flaky chicken pie And v write ite their lists of this s and that which each one must supply Still do they work the whole day long with fervor and with zeal To set the tables and at last to cook and serve the me meal Still do the pretty girls line up with those black oval trays And each to some young man who comes her special favor pays Still when the feasting is over the soprano sings a 3 song And some invited speaker speak r makes a speech that's I much too l long ng Then to a rising vote of thanks the weary women wo wo- wo women women men bow They did that fifty years ago and still they do it now Church suppers May they carry on in parish large or small Against the changing tides of life this old world needs them all For while they stay its it's very clear there still is is' something goodIn good goodIn In human hearts and something very brave in womanhood While groups o of people gladly share church suppers now and then They'll keep alive aliver in spite of change the faith that strengthens I |
