Show I African Music From Holland In order to preserve the folk music of the South African tribes efforts cHarts have been made for several years tomake to tomake tomake make complete phonograph records of the songs of the natives Quite a large roll collection has been already made and an examination of the results seems to indicate that several of these songs can be traced back to- to Holland from which country immigrants settled In South Africa as early as 1652 Records have been made of South African folk music including Hottentots Hottentots Hotten Hotten- tots Malay slaves Imported in the seventeenth sev and md eighteenth centuries Bantu tribesmen from the north and members of oriental races shipwrecked ship wrecked on African shores But the bulk of South Africa's folk music is of white origin based on that of old time Holland also on that of France England England En En- gland and Germany or more years ago Many of the melodies exist only in the memories of the native fiddlers at Boer |
