S Grant Young YounK S Surveyor Joseph and County Clerk Alonzo Mackay Each intends to back up the written protests protests pro pro- tests by personal appearance at the hearing Mr Mackay's letter reads in part as follows x xI I respectfully ask the board of commissioners to consider my work worksheet worksheet worksheet sheet and estimate for anticipated expenditures in my ray department for 1933 for the reason that the amount as now fixed in the budget for my ray department is not adequate to permit permit per per- mit me to carry carryon on the functions and duties of the office For the further reason in my judgment the board has not complied with the law in respect to fixing the budget and for forthe or orthe the further reason that the amount as tentatively fixed is not sufficient to allow salaries in the clerks clerk's office eq eqUal al to salaries in other departments depart depart- ments meats I r want to assure the commission again that I am anxious and willing willingto to cooperate with all county officials in any program of oC economy which will reflect to th the benefit of the overburdened overburdened over over- burdened taxpayers of the county but at the same time I do feel there should be no discrimination between departments and md the statutory duties of el elected officers should be the first consideration f for r any appropriations I made Mr Mackay contends the commission commission commis commis- sion did not consider the budget he originally I submitted but mer merely ly glanced at it and returned it with instructions to reduce it materially I
