A R R. Taylor 19 two suspected violators of th the Dyer act escaped from the Weber county Jail here last night The pair who were awaiting action of ot the next federal grand jury had I worked on mortar holding the stones of the wall vall with pieces of iron taken from their beds Two stones were ver pushed out and the men crawle through and dropped 15 feet to the ground on the west side of the jail The escape was discovered at 10 p p. m. m when the guard visited the cell to check up on the inmates Jim Carter held for Mor Morgan an county authorities was a third inmate of the cell but elected to remain behind When the guard failed to receive answers from Thomas and Taylor C Carter told him the two had escaped The cell is somewhat isolated from the rest of ot the jail no other cells being close to it Authorities es believed because of this Thomas and Taylor were able to work on the masonry without attracting attention between periodic visits of the guard Deputy sheriffs were conducting a widespread search scorch for the themen men today Both left leU the jail without hats or coa coats ts |
