Clyde Irrigation engineer of the Utah State Agricultural college extension serice serI service service ser ser- I I vice ice who recently completed his last survey of oC the Mount Logan watershed which supplies the Logan river According to Professor ProCessor Clyde the snow cover on the watershed is the thc heaviest in ill history At the present time the snow is melting slowly and settling considerably There is very verJ little runoff However a sudden change in the weather which has been abnormally cold would start the thc water water wa wa- ter running particularly on the lower levels and cause serious 1 floods Snow at feet elevation measures measures measures meas meas- ures 10 feet with inches of wa wa- va- va ter It is nine feet teet deep at feet elevation with 36 5 inches of water and at feet there are 55 feet of snow with inches of water The average at all three elevations is over three times that of 1931 which was one of the thc driest winters in the history of Cache valley alley creating creating creat creat- ing Ins an unparalleled drouth situation Professor Clyde is working on a complete report from rom watersheds throughout the state and expects to have a bulletin on the irrigation water water water wa wa- ter situation ready for distribution soon through the college extension i service |
