Show JAMES MELLOR DIES IN FAYETTE FA VETTE FAYETTE March 19 James 19 James Mellor Mel Mcl lor br Sr 83 the oldest pioneer and Indian war veteran of or Gunnison valley val val- ley lay died at his home in Fayette a anoon at noon Thursday following an attack o of paralysis Monday morning Up until then he was able to ride horses and drive a car He was born in England England Eng Eng- land October 8 1848 the tIe son of James and Mary Payne Pa e Mellor In 1856 he came with his parents to America He joined the Martin and Tylers handcart company at Council Bluffs His mother moth moth- er and father pulling one handcart and his two older sisters pulling the theother theother theother other he and his younger brother walked the entire way from there to Utah The famil family went to Springville Spring Spring- ille ville where they lived until 1861 when they were called caned to help settle and md pioneer Gunnison and Fayette During the Black Hawk war at the age of 17 he hc enlisted in Captain Niels L. L j. j Tollestrup's company and later in General Paces Pace's company He was sent ent to to fight Indians On April 24 1870 he was married to o Eliza E. E Bartholomew of Fayette in n Salt Lake She died May 10 1912 In n 1873 he was also m married to Charlotte Charotte Char Char- lotte otte Dack of oC Fayette who died in 1895 In 1914 ho he was married in the Manti temple to Annie Larson of Ephaim Ephraim Eph Eph- raim aim who died February 17 1926 He c had been an active L. L D. D S. S missionary mis mis- and church worker He was wasa a school trustee and Sanpete county bee ee and tree inspector for severn several I years ears He had been a successful farmer farmr farm farm- er r and He was the father of 17 children 13 of f whom survive They arc James Jr r. r Elgin Mellor and Mrs Dora Olsen Fayette ayette Mrs Violet Dorius Dorlus and Mrs LuEra Christenson Ephraim Mrs Loa x a Clark Los Angeles Gilbert Melor Mel Mel- lor br or Springville Francis Mellor McCammon Mc Me- Cammon Gammon Idaho Heber Mellor Menor Heber City William R.
