Show Junior Prom Gala aa Affair air I I I I The twenty seventh annual junior promenade given at the University II of Dr Utah was held in the thc newly finished finished fin fin- Union building marking the thc I formal opening of the edifice for social so I cial activities The Thc affair was given in memory p of or George Washington and the founding of ot the Union in accordance accord accord- I ante ance with the Washington nial A blue colonial coach lined with I heavy gold brocade quaintly charac charac- r I of the thc period formed the thc entrance en trance through h which the guests were announced to the thc receiving line by r. r liveried livened footman Members of or the committee in charge and their partners part ners received cd until 10 p p. p m. m The Thc ballroom ballroom ball ball- room was elaborately decorated with potted ferns and varicolored flowers wider under each window and at nt the en r I trances Members of the orchestra were seated seat seated ed cd on a replica of the thc broad veranda of Mount Vernon with tall taU white southern colonial colomal pillars under which a 3 balcony extended The silhouette of ot a dainty southern miss and shadows shad shadows of ot the rooms room's furnishings were seen through windows leading from the thc balcony An old fashioned wheelbarrow wheel barrow filled with plants was before the veranda Early American heavy wrought iron lamps hung over the chandeliers and lights of blue lavender laender lavender laven la der green yellow jellow and orange were lashed flashed on the thc tall columns around the dance floor forming an indirect lighting system On each side of the thc ballroom the mens men's and women's loun lounges es were new newly furnished for the occasion with beautiful Jacobean and early American furniture The Little theater above the mezzanine mezzanine mezza mezza- nine floor was the thc Pan Pan Hellenic Hellenic room featuring the thc sororities and fraternities fraternities frater frater- on the campus In small niches around the dance floor radio lamps holding the thc letter U U with the Greek crests in m the thc center formed the lighting light ing system Red and white streamers were festooned from the thc center of the ceiling to each lamp Over the entrance en cn trance opposite the thc orchestra stand hung a large block letter U U colored with th red and white brilliants and lighted with a spotlight The orchestra orches I Itra tra featured sweetheart songs of the thc I Greek organizations An event of the evening was the thc grand march led lcd by the thc patrons and patronesses and officers of or the Associated Asso Asso- elated Student body The lines formed across the thc dance floor and before the thc orchestra where the ladies were presented with dainty silver boudoir vanities with miniature figures dancing dancing ing on top of ot the thc box Each vanity byre bore the thc university seal A short dedication ceremony was conducted b by President George Thomas Thom Thorn as and representatives of the freshmen freshmen fresh men sophomore and senior classes during intermission Refreshments were served ser during the evening on each of the three floors by girls gowned in Martha 1 Washington Washing ton costumes The serving tables were decorated with miniature American flags Supper was served between 11 p. p m. m and 3 a. a m. m in the dining room Potted ferns decorated the entrances Tables ables were laid for six guests and were vere centered with square baskets of brightly rightly colored garden flowers The dance programs and menus combined carried out a color scheme of f red white and blue with red suede embossed with the university seal ingold ingold in gold old forming the thc covers Attached with white silk cords were small enameled en en- ameled meled pencils which were yere souvenirs for or the thc men The Thc dedication on the program was to the founders of the federal union and the founders of or the Utah Union building Five hundred and seventy couples attended The patrons and patronesses for the evening included Governor and Mrs George H.
