Show PIONEERS' nx. PtoM-nus' Dai will be celebrated to-morrow in many parts of this Terntorj. Several excursions will betaken from this city to aJjaceut places of re-sort. Login w HI have a grand gathering and an old-fashioned entertainment in honor of the da fceeraIotlier towns witlshow their regard for the anniversary of the entrance of the Pioneers into this Territory. And the whole people will take a holiday. Some sneers have been indulged in by persons who nre iver ready to mlsirterpret the motives and acts of the majority of our j-oojilc over the fact that the Twenty-fourth or July holds so dear a place in their hearts. But liae we not all good reason to commemorate tue day when the pilgrim band who led the way to the-s-valleys came out of the canyon after their weary journey, planted the fligor our country upon this then Mexican soil and marked the spot for this fine and prosperous city? We tliinfe so, and feel that thtee who do not respond to the sentiments senti-ments that glow in the hearts of the early settlers on this occasion are not composed of tlie finer stufi that makes up tho better part of human nature. The celebration of the Twenty-fourth Twenty-fourth of July detracts nothing from the glories or the Fourth, or of other red-letter days in Utah history. We honor the day and we honor the men who made it significant sig-nificant and memorable. It is now a legal holiday. The custom cus-tom of commemaratlng the event which will rrove of vast consequence conse-quence to the nation and some time to the whole world, should be kept up while the years and centuries come and go. So let everybody take a rest from toil tomorrow and each enjoy the time as best he may, rejoicing that these mountains now ring with the sounds of Industry arid progress where once but solitude prevailed, and that homes and gardens with the prattle of children and the voice or praise have taken the place of the savage's wickiup, the howling or the w olf and the hiss of the deadly snake. And let all remember that this change Is Uita step in the great plan of an All w he Providence for the full rcdemrtion'of the land and the establishment of His dominion in all the earth. |
