At 7 p. m. the adults trippd the light fantastic All creeds and denominations joined in this celebraUon. What a contrast there Is in this valley between the days of 1S55 and the present. Tlilrty-flve years ago JSMiop Hess sent a body of men into in-to this valley to rai-e grain. They returned and rejortrd that none could be grown, as there wasfro-t vtry night. Now we have so muth bay and grain that we can scarcely take care of It for lack of assistance to gathtr It. Lucem five feet high; timothy six feet, and wheat five feet, with head seven inches long. I think we ought to celebrate the Twenty-fourth, and praise our Father for bestowing these blessings upon us. E. V. Peterson. Morgan Co., July 26, 1S80. |
