Show Sas the Burlington Jlaflcy: In taking the census we might with profit imitate the method followed fol-lowed in Germany. The census there Is taken iu one day, iu the course of a few hours. The census districts are composed of one hou-e or a few houses, and competent men are selected to do the c-juntiug. In this cou ntry the census, as suggested by the H'orM, might profitably and accurately I taken m January, when business ani weather keep nearly everybody at home; the list of questions should U- as brief as possible, and there should be enumerators, enum-erators, all capable to finish the count In a singlu day, in cities at least. In this way the census would be made aci-urate and IU results valuable. It is to be hoped that while it is too late at present to make corrections the lessons of the preseut enumcratl. n will be heeded for the next time. |
