Show Mks. Kuzadeth Sands, a centenarian cen-tenarian and veteran of the war of IS12, died Sunday in Baltimore. She was the wife of Peb-r Smith, a soldier In the United States army in that war, and going to Annapolis to nurse him, the stayed after his death to nurse other sick suldiers, and accompanied the troops to North Point, where the battle in defense of Baltimore was fought. Mrs. Smith remained in camp during dur-ing the light, and was with the army during thu bombardment of Fort McHenry. Becauof thisshe was an honorary member of the Old Defenders' Association, and she lias outlived all the rest, the last "old defendet" having died last year. Her second husband, John Sands, died In 1S23, and her last child died a few years ago at tlie ago of 77, but Mrs. Sands lias grand children and even great-great-grand children living in Baltimore. She was 101 years and five month old at her death. |
