Show AMPUTEES TO GET NEW CARS Since September 1, 1946, when the "automobile for amputees" program was launched by the Veterans Vet-erans Administration, 10 Utah disabled dis-abled veterans have received their cars and 62 others have been certified cer-tified as eligible, according to E. A. Littlefield, manager of the Utah regional office. It was originally estimated that about 75 Utah veterans would be eligible for the cars at government govern-ment expense. Thus far 100 veterans veter-ans have filed applications, but only 72 have been certified as eligible, with 28 cases still pending. pend-ing. The program was set up to furnish fur-nish automobiles or other conveyances convey-ances to World War II veterans who had lost, or lost the use of, one or both legs at or above the ankle. After the VA had approved the veteran's application and he had received an operator's permit from his local licensing agency, he was to present the application form to any dealer of his choice and negotiate for a vehicle. The cost of each vehicle, including includ-ing any special attachments to aid in its operation, is limited to $1,-600. $1,-600.
