Clip Is Far Below Normal Reports Indicate Production of short wool in the United States is estimated at 215,-635,000 215,-635,000 pounds this year, the Agricultural Agri-cultural Department reported. It will be the smallest since the department started keeping records rec-ords in 1909. It is eight per cent under 1948 and 37 per cent less than the 10-year average of 342,-784,000 342,-784,000 pounds. The number of sheep shorn or to be shorn will be down about seven per cent from last year and about 37 per cent under the 10-year 10-year average. The 1949 number was set at 26, 941,000 head. Every western state reported a drop in production. All but Colorado, Colo-rado, New Mexico and California will have the lowest production in history. Production this year and last, respectively by major producing states includes: Montana 15,575,000 and 16,629-000; 16,629-000; Idaho 8,808,000 and 10,530,-000; 10,530,-000; Utah 10,690,000 and 12,704,-000; 12,704,-000; Washington 2,984,000 and 3,-326,000 3,-326,000 and Oregon 5,249,000 and 6,100,000. |
