Show Priesthood Meeting The regular monthly meeting of the Priesthood of the Salt lake Stake of ion convened in the Assembly Hall at 1 nm today Saturday March lit 1690 President Presi-dent Angus M Cannon presiding All the wards ot the Stake re xmdcd l the roll call exceptIng Jrapervllle Bluff Dale Riverton Jerrimnn and Pleasant Green Owing l the train from the south being late in reaching the city some of the m hop and other leading brethren did not reach town in time for meeting Fourteen quorums of Elder were properly represented There were representatives of teL te-L r Priesthood from the First Third Fourth Fifth Eleventh Fourteenth and Sixteenth Wards ot the city also from SHU Creek Sugar Brighton House Granite Draper and Thirten young men were recon mended by their respectIve Bishops a being worthy t be ordained Kl there and on their promising that they would honor the PrlesUiood if I should be conferred upon them their recommends were endorsed by unanimous vote of the meeting metng President Angus M Cannon remarked marked that it had come l his knowledge that the Presidency of Elders quorums were issuing recommends ommends to brethren moving from one place to another after Uie manner man-ner in which the Bishops of wards Bihop wan gave notes of standing l mem hers lie dJ not understand how 1 practice of recom mending I Elders was b tOut t-Out The late President John Taylor had expressed his view on this question tp was brought before him which was that when men were ordained Elders they should receive a certificate of their ordination and that this entItled them 1 tccognlUon wherever they went In connection with the Bishops Bish-ops note of standing A Bishops note of standing or recommend was all that was necessary to transfer a member of the Church from on lace to anotherand this rule should not 0 departed from Where brethren have not received their certificates of ordination they chould obtain them and the presidents of quorums fhouIJ see that they are issued The presidents of the quorums in this Sake will please see f this and furnish fur-nish every Elder with his certificate certifi-cate I is reported that qungmen come to the Prictthood met ting and are recommended t be ordained Elders who afterwards neglect their duties such a attending quorum meetings and otherwise magnifying their fte Any person thus guilty of omission is a covenant breaker anti should b labored with in a Spirit of kindness Efforts should b made to save them but if they Ire incorrigible they should b ell before the Bishops court and dealt with as the Jan of the Church directs Men who are guill of wrong doing are not worthy of our fellowship President Charles W Penrose defined de-fined the duties of the Priett nnd Teacher and showed that where these brethren magnified their railIngs rail-Ings a spirit prevailed Inb good prle among the Saints The house to house visitors need not always b reminded of their dutIes The lest men that ran he found should lie sought after l attend t this and theY should enter uiton their labors in accordance with the spirit thereof Hasty visits or frivolous frivol-ous talk should not characterize these ministrations The families of the Saints require to be fe with the bread of Je and it must needs b that the spiritual teachers b alive to their dulls in every particular par-ticular hereln we have erred sinned In the past t sec to I that we profit by experience and become the people that God designs we i should b laboring solely for each others interest and well being and lie will blest and prosper us accordingly Adjourned until the first Rater day In April providing the general dlss aunual conference ss not In session ses-sion then otherwise the next reg nbc meeting will convene on fcatur day lay 3n 1S90 at 1 am |
