In a drizzling rain, the Springville Spring-ville team dropped a heart-breaking 13-12 ball game to the Payson team here last Friday, after failing fail-ing to convert after their two touchdowns. The Devils marched the Lions to their own 3-yard line early in the first quarter, only to be stopped stop-ped just short of a first down and a score. Payson took over from there and with straight football, marched to Springville's 5-yard stripe as the quarter ended. Two plays in- the second quarter gave the Lions a touchdown and a line plunge for the extra point. Springville stopped another attempted at-tempted Lion drive later in the second quarter, and took over to drive deep in Payson territory when the half ended. Opening up a beautiful running attack, Coach Pehrson's boys, led by hard - driving Bill Jones, marched over the Payson goal line in the third quarter to score, but failed to make the conversion. Again the Devils took over and again they marched down and over the goal line for their second score. The kick was again wide. Springville held a 12-7 margin at the end of the quarter. Payson's winning score came in the last 3 minutes of play in the ball game, when they had driven to Springville's 2-yard line. The Red Devils held for four downs and took over the ball. A punt put them out of immediate danger, but Payson got off a long pass and the Devils found them knocking right on their door again for another an-other touchdown. It took four plays to put the ball over for the winning score. Both teams rjlaved good ball. REGION THREE Team Standings: W. L. T. Ps. Psa.
