Tax Slash In 1947, Goal Of House Group A group of 27 Congressmen, headed by Rep. Daniel A. Reed of New York, is calling for a slash in Federal expenditures, a 20 tax reduction and "a complete overhauling of the Federal tax system." There is no reason why taxes in 1947 should not be cut around 20 percent, the Congressmen assert, as-sert, "except the continued New Deal program of spending and wasting public funds." "We believe the sooner our government gov-ernment again restricts itself to its proper functions," says the House group, "and restores those extra Federal activities to the states . and to the people, the sooner we will have sanity, economy econ-omy and efficiency in our national nation-al government- "The Administration apparently apparent-ly means to continue its wasteful and reckless spending of the people's peo-ple's money, regardless of the cost to the country." |
