passed away since I wrote to you of the illness of rcb r r our brother fo fellowlaborer In Christ t Elder Edgar D Simmons Now It becomes my sad duty to ap prise iou of his demise which happened the day before yesterday 2be February < th at 2 ocldck in the afternoon Ilk illness listed four teen days of which the last eight were very painful It was not only a hard time for tie deceases but also for me all of which will be fresh in my memory during life The deceased had tIe WIlpor In the highest degree his face was full marks ns also his wholobedy so that after his death while we washed and dressed him the diseased diseas-ed skin readily peeled oUt It would have made me happy i could our dear brother have survived sur-vived and again returned his kin tired but God has ordered Il otherwise other-wise and lias called him from his field of labor to the beyond where sorrows are no mole UV became eo very weak that ho could not stand and his voice also became very low and during the last days of his illness he lost his speech yet he understood what transpired amund him anti also what was asked of him Ills burial took place yesterday afternoon at 3 oclock In the Armenian Arme-nian likely the Protestant Armenian Arme-nian graveyard close to some American graves I thought it would be necessary to go to the government respecting tho grave but Brother Vtlerlan went to the chief preacher of tho Protestants to ace alout the grave and he said It would not be necessary to apply to the government He also proffered to preach the funeral sermon should we so desire anti as I am not M far advanced in the Turkish language as to be able to deliver a discourse auJ as Brother Vezcrian Is only n Teacher iu the Church of Jesus Christ I accepted the ministers offer He therefore came and after the corpse had been laid in the cof fin ho read a portion of Matthew 2Hb from the 35th verse to the end of the chapter He then riSks a little to the congregation during which time he read two more verses from Revelations 0th verses 12 and 13 Thep lit prayed after which we went to the cemetery where we had again to wait owing to the grave being too narrow Hence the grave had to be widened to admit the coffin Here the minister again delivered a sermon ser-mon whrreln lie read RevelatIons I from 9th to 20th verses He theu prayed and afterwards thu grave was filled Durfnk this time the minister remained and not until un-til everylhingwi < ompcleddid he come to shake hands I then tbaukedhim and he requested me to write his respects to the mother of the deceased The chief points of the discourse so far as related to me by Brother Vezerian Were these That we should always be ready to depart from this life as wo do not know when our moment might come Korproof he referred to thedeccatcd rlp fle fl who while yet young was called away from this llfiv He alto said that if our dead brother had done right his resurrection and his reward re-ward would beglorious I I understood under-stood that the mInIter also remem bend the relatives our departed brother In his prayer that God muht comfort them In tho loss of a son and brother As the brother just passed away was n member of the Church and also true to his calling ho could Icok forward to a glorious nsurrectlon and relatives and friends could likewisenntfclpate a falihful joyful rtunisn U they all remain This blow strike blond hot only the Church but aha tb relatives of thedecca we have however to Give way to the will of God for what God dOt is done well Dear brother as I do not know the address of the relatives ol the deccatcilj I would ask you to notify them and to give the ministers respect to his mother We niurt now at once either burn or bury the bed and some of thu clothes belonging to our departed brother The remainder of his effects I will keep until I hear from his relatives as to what I shall do with them I dont feel right well at present I will hardly be able to remain long hence I have written to President Teaidale nt Liverpool I ttd am I awaiting his advice as to what I shall now do In case I should go to HaifA I will carry with me Brother Simmons effects and his relatIves may address me there If anything concerning the grave Is wanted then they can write to Brother Vererian May God permit Brother Simons remains to rest inpeaceiu the grave until the resurrection and com
