Show Forest Service Sponsors All-Day Fire Fighting School n Springville An all-day conference featuring -A fire-fighting school was conducted at the local fire hall Friday, under un-der direction of Ivan Sack, supervisor of the Uinta National Forest, under whose di-' rection the training meeting was held. Approximately 30 men representing rep-resenting agencies dealing with fire control in unincorporated areas of Utah county were in attendance. at-tendance. Forest fires in this area are expected ex-pected to be held to a minimum during the coming summer, due to the under-development of feed grass, reported A. L. Taylor, assistant as-sistant supervisor of the Uinta National Forest. However, Mr. Taylor warned, recent rain storms may result in a growth of this feed grass which would present a serious seri-ous fire hazard. Mr. Taylor made no predictions as to the seriousness of forest fires in higher elevated regions, but Mr. Sack said it is much too early to determine the situation in the higher elevations. Mr. Sack said that Utah county has never been seriously in danger of forest fires, and since the heavy snow storms and slow runoff of the past winter, point to a favorable favor-able condition, citizens need not worry too much about this phase. W. E. Tangren, assistant state fire warden, commended the per diem guards, units of men who live near fire danger areas who can speedily prevent damage, and he outlined a plan to organize these units more successfully in order that they might be ready to i " (Continued on Page 2) Forest Service Sponsors School (Continued from Page One) combat any summer fires on the mountains. Theron S. Hall, Utah county sheriff, acting as a county fire warden, outlined the setup in the county and told of cooperation obtained ob-tained from various fire-fighting units. He said with the radio systems, sys-tems, alarms could be spread readily- The meeting featured, in addition addi-tion to the various discussion and talks, a U. S. forest, service film on fire control. It was originally planned to include actual demonstrations demon-strations of training methods, but these were canceled because of bad weather. At noon a luncheon was served similar to those which are served on the actual fire-fighting line. The training school was sponsored spon-sored by the Uinta National Forest, For-est, with assistance of the Utah Cooperative Firefighters. Agencies represented included the forest service, the sheriff's office, the highway patrol, local fire department depart-ment and others of the county, per diem guards, state road commission, com-mission, and the bureau of land management.
