Oil Company Executive Congratulates Snrinqville Student On Scholarship l w -s x; Glen Sanford, son of Mr. and Mrs Frank Sanford, 292 Brookside Drive was among four University of Utah students awarded scholarships scholar-ships by Standard Oil of California Califor-nia last week, according to Dr. Ray L. Doran, chairman of the campus scholarship committee. A graduate of Springville high school young Sanford is a freshman fresh-man who will major in civil engineering engi-neering and architecture. In high school he maintained an A aver- aA brilliant athlete during his prep days, he will also specialize in basketball while at the university. univer-sity. In fall practice with the freshman team he has turned in several outstanding performances. Each scholarship, one to each V undergraduate class, carries a $500 stipend and is renewable from year to year upon proper qualification by each winner. In Mr. Sanford's case, since he is just a freshman, the value of the scholarship could reach $2000 oyer the four-year period. Award was made by Fred C. Eastman, district manager of the Standard Oil Co., who said the scholarships were given to "potential "poten-tial leaders regardless of the school in which they intend to major and without restrictions as to race or creed." Other winners were Ruth Velen Ray, sophomore; Henry Nygaard, junior, and Waj'ne Stevens, senior, Salt Lake City. |
