Show FIRST WARDERS CAPTURE SOFTBALL CROWN What looked like a would-be-walkaway for the Springville Garage Gar-age in the city Softball championship champion-ship playoff between the First Ward and the Garage men last! Friday night, turned out to be a rather fascinating duel, with the Warders surprising the fans by winning the game. The surprising First Ward team, with LaMar Weight pitching, held the Springville Garage to 2 hits and 1 run to win the championship champion-ship 9 to 1. The lone tally for the losers came in the fifth inning, when Reed Averett, who was playing play-ing first base, ponnded out a nice clean-cut homer over the center-fielder's center-fielder's head. One of the game's outstanding sidelights was the uncanny "luck" Lenore Weight, who played tenth man for the winners, had in moving mov-ing around in her position to be where the ball popped up to put out several of the hapless losers. After the trophy, which was given through the courtesy of downtown business men, had been presented, softball was officially ended for the season. Other local games, however, will probably be played throughout the month. Championship game summary: Hits Runs Errors Springville G 2 1 3 First Ward 8 9 0 Battery First Ward, L.
