Show COMDR. KIMBALL SENDS PRAISE TO ART GILBERT Springville Coach Is Lauded For Outstanding Work In Navy; Rated A Top Officer Lt. Comdr. Eddie Kimball, former for-mer athletic director at B. Y. U., who is now doing a great job directing di-recting the Physical Maintenance Division of the Navy program on the west coast, sends a word of praise for Springville high school's newly-signed football coach, Art Gilbert: "While in the Navy, Art has been a favorite with officers, cadets ca-dets and enlisted personnel. His first duty was at St. Mary's College Col-lege where he acted as platoon pusher, teaching green cadets to become acquainted with military maneuvers, Navy customs, and other things which make for a good Naval officer. "While working in this capacity his platoons were first in three of the five contests which they entered. en-tered. He also worked in the sports program, in basketball, for several months. In his capacity as a coach, his teams were never defeated. Since June, 1943, he has been working with fleet units at the Naval Air Station, at San Diego, Calif. His job has been to plan and administer a program for officers and men. He has been particularly well liked because of his pep, enthusiasm and friendly attitude. We have had some fine young officers here the past two years, but Art is one of the most efficient and 'best-liked of the entire en-tire group." Lt. (j.g.) Gilbert, former Y star, was recently placed on inactive duty because of a physical defect. All best wishes go to Art and we hope he makes his stay here permanently perm-anently I |
