X'" W "TT -rw!mipw ' f ' ' , - s 4 f Miss lone Averett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Averett of Springville, became the bride of Warwick Palfreyman, son of Mrs. Sarah Palfreyman, Wednesday, January 15, in the Salt Lake temple. tem-ple. Following the ceremony the young couple left on an extended honeymoon trip to Old Mexico. They plan to visit in Arizona, Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico, and other points of interest. Miss Averett, a graduate of the Springville high school, and a former for-mer student of the Brigham Young university, where she is affiliated with the Fidelas Social unit, is prominent in music circles of this city and Provo. Mr. Palfreyman is also a Springville high school graduate and has graduated from the Brig-ham Brig-ham Young university. He is now employed with the local post office of-fice and is also second lieutenant of Company "A" 115th Engineers unit of the National Guard. They will make their home in San Luis Obispo, California, where the local unit of the National Na-tional Guard will be located for a year's training. BRIDE CO.MPLLMEXTED AT WEDDING PARTY Miss lone Averett was guest of honor at a shower given by her girl friends Saturday night at the home of Mrs. Dorothy Hazel. "Pickup Sticks" were played and at the conclusion of the game the bride was presented with many beautiful gifts. Luncheon was served to approximately ap-proximately twenty guests. EFFAX BEE CTXB ENTERTAIXED Mrs. Reed Rigtrup was hostess to members of the Effan Bee club Thursday evening at her home. Luncheon was served early in the evening from small tables centered cen-tered with red and white sweet peas and gladiolus. Thoughts for the evening were given by Mrs. Mildred Larsen, after which Mr. Rigtrup showed his moving pictures. pic-tures. JEUXE MERE CLUB MEMBERS EXTERTAIXED Mrs. Paul Haymond was hostess hos-tess to members of the Jeune Mere club at her home Wednesday Wednes-day evening. The book, "How to Win Friends and Influence People," by Dale Carnegie, was reviewed by Mrs. Margaret Blackett and vocal selections selec-tions were given by a quartet composed of J. W. Olsen, Glen Coffman, Walter Peterson, and Glen Turner. A short talk on charm and personality was also given by Naomi Crandall. A delicious luncheon was served to the following members: Mrs. Margaret Blackett, Mrs. Edna Clyde, Mrs. Naomi Crandall, Mrs. Madeline Despain, Mrs. Maurine Haymond, Mrs. Minnie Richards, Mrs. Naomi Thorn, Miss Mai'ie Whiting, Mrs. Mabel Wright, and the hostess. According Accord-ing to the beauticians it Is a "simple, practical hair-style designed to help the average woman to be smart looking." liRIDK HOXORED AT CHOIR PARTY Members of the Fourth ward choir entertained at a party Monday Mon-day evening complimentary to Mrs. Warwick Palfreyman, nee lone Averett. The party was in the form of a ' banquet and during the evening a number of program features were presented. The guest of honor also entertained with organ solos during the evening.' At the close of the party those attending presented the guest of honor with a beautiful traveling gift. "WE READERS" HEAR BOOK REVIEW The book, "Foundation Stone," by Ella Warren, was reviewed in an interesting manner Thursday evening by Mrs. G. B. Orton at a meeting of "We Readers," held at the home of Mrs. Howard Thorpe. Following the review, luncheon was served to the following members: mem-bers: Mrs. Maurice Bird, Mrs. Leon Bird, Mrs. Roe Thorne, Mrs. Lynn Alleman, Mrs. Howard Sum-sion, Sum-sion, Mrs. Ronald Thorpe, Mrs. Howard Maycock, Mrs. Harrison Conover, and Mrs. Maurice Anderson. An-derson. Mrs. C. E. Eggertsen and Miss Zelma Thorpe were special guests. S. T. CIXB MEMBERS EXTERTAIXED Members of the S. T. club were entertained Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Lee Sumsion. Luncheon was served early in the evening at small tables centered center-ed with rosebuds, after which progressive pro-gressive bridge was played, with high score prize being won by Mrs. Harry Pennington. Twelve club members attended, and it was announced that the next club meeting would be held on Thursday, January 16, at the home of Mrs. Ed Johnson. LEGIOX AUXILIARY HOLDS MEETIXG The regular monthly meeting of the American Legion auxiliary was held Wednesday night at the Memorial hall, under the direc-' direc-' tion of President Ada Barron. The program featured a talk on child welfare work by Mrs. Clara Sumsion, child welfare chairman, who also reported oh work done in this department at Christmas time. Miss Nana Lee Reynolds entertained enter-tained with piano selections and Eldean Weight gave a vocal number num-ber accompanied by his mother, Mrs. Lola Weight. i It was also annual installation night and five new members, Mrs. Berton Groesbeck, Mrs. William Gogarty, Mrs Albert Giles, Mrs. Paul Walker, and Mrs. Mae Fletcher were installed as new members in the unit Concluding the meeting, tasty refreshments were served by Hostesses Hos-tesses Lola Weight, Vilate Reynolds, Rey-nolds, and Mary Frandsen. LADIES LITERARY CLUB ENTERTAINED THURSDAY Ladies Literary club members were entertained Thursday evening eve-ning at the home of Mrs. E. T. Crandall. A review of the book, "For This My Glory," by Paul Bailey, was given by Mrs. Ed. Clyde. Other program numbers included includ-ed piano selections by Dick Crandall. Cran-dall. Mrs. Paul Thorn, club president, presi-dent, had the meeting in charge and during a short business session, ses-sion, Mrs. C. G. Salisbury, Mrs. Ed. Clyde, and Mrs. Crandall, were appointed members of a committee com-mittee to arrange a party in honor of Mr. and Mrs. J. Y. Bearnson and Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Groesbeck, Groes-beck, who plan to leave in the near future with the National Guard unit for San Luis Obispo, V California. Preceding the program, a tasty luncheon was served by the hostess hos-tess to eighteen club members and guests. VERSATILITY CLUB MEMBERS EXTERTAIXED A delightful evening was spent by members of the Versatility club Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Geraldine Atkinson. Mrs. Helen Anderson reviewed the book, "The Family," during the evening, after which luncheon lunch-eon was served by the hostess. In attendance were Mrs. May Miller, Mrs. Evelyn Bird, Mrs. Ferl Bown, Mrs. Minnie Walton, Mrs. Helen Rowland, Mrs. Marva Taylor, Mrs. Eulalia Livingston, Mrs. Harriet Strong, and Mrs. Bernice Rigtrup, the latter being a guest. HOME CULTURE CLUB EXTERTAIXED FRIDAY Members of the Home Culture club were entertained Friday at the home of Mrs. Howard Thorpe. Lynn Taylor of the Dixon-Taylor-Russell company, gave an interesting in-teresting illustrated lecture on interior in-terior decoration. Selections on the accordion were also given by Mrs. Maurice Bird. In conclusion luncheon was served to seventeen club members and Miss Zelma Thorpe was a special spe-cial guest. HOOVERS EXTERTALN AT DIXXER PARTY Mr. and Mrs. Bliss Hoover of Springville entertained at a turkey dinner at their home Sunday. Places on the long table were set for W. E. Hoover, Mrs. Eva Hoover, Miss Helen Hoover, Miss Dorothy Hoover, Mr. and Mrs. Whit Hoover and family, Mrs. Reva H. Wagener, Miss Edna Hoover, Hoo-ver, of Provo, Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Christensen and family and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Lossee and family of Salt Lake City. CULTURAL ARTS CLUB EXTERTAIXED WEDXESDAY Cultural Arts club members were entertained Wednesday at the home of Clara Harmer. During the evening Miss Zelma Thorpe gave a paper and musical selections were given by Margaret Peirce, LaRee Alleman, and Naomi Na-omi Peirce, accompanied by Mary Bird. A delicious luncheon was served serv-ed to Margaret Peirce, Delia Baxter, Bax-ter, Ruth Olsen, Ida Packard, Cora Ellis, Aileen McKenzie, Zelma Thorpe, Margaret Christensen, LaRee La-Ree Alleman, Elzina Laney, Lois Thorn, Elaine Crandall, Theora Peterson, and the hostess. INFORMAL EVENING ENTERTAINS RELATIVES Averett cousins were entertained entertain-ed Saturday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Haymond. During the - evening 500 was played with prizes being won by Gertrude Clements and Ray Sim-kins. Sim-kins. A hot luncheon was served to the following: Mr. and Mts. FRIEXDS EXTERTAIXED AT SATURDAY NIGHT PARTY On Saturday night, a group of friends were entertained at a party par-ty at the home of Miss Venice Whiting. Beautiful decorations in yellow and silver added to the festive occasion which featured progressive progres-sive "Bingo" and a well arranged luncheon. Present were Beth Mendenhall, Milt Hales; Dama Grant, Taylor Reynolds; Phyllis Smart, Russell Holley; Velma Olsen, Jay Neilson; Venice Whiting, Bob Springmeyer. TEWS ENTERTAIN AT PARTY SATURDAY Mr. and Mrs. William T. Tew were host and hostess at a delightful de-lightful party at their home Saturday Sat-urday evening. Approximately 40 former missionaries mis-sionaries from the east central states where Mr. Tew served as president, renewed friendships and spent the evening in social conversation conver-sation and group singing. A tasty luncheon with dainty favors was served to the guests who attended from Provo, Salt Lake City, Payson, and other surrounding sur-rounding communities. YOUNG COUPLE FETED AT DIXXER PARTY Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Boyer entertained en-tertained at dinner Tuesday evening eve-ning in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Warwick Palfreyman, who were married yesterday. Covers were laid for Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Jensen, Mr. and Mrs. Boyer, and the guests of honor. ' FIRST WARD M MEN AXD GLEAXERS AT FTRESLDE First ward M Men and Gleaners were entertained Sunday evening after sacrament meeting at the home of Mrs. Emil Ostlund. The book of the adventures of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Johnson, "I Married Adventure," by Mrs. Osa Johnson, was reviewed in an interesting inter-esting manner by Mrs. Blanche Beal. Luncheon was served in conclusion con-clusion to approximately twenty-five twenty-five members.
