Show 2 Cougars Painted : In Y Fieldhouse 1 Two huge cougars stared at the crowd that came to witness the opening of Brigham Young university's univer-sity's new million-dollar fieldhouse last Saturday. According to Edwin R. Kimball director of athletics at BYU, the cougars, oil paintings by Fen-ell Collet, measure five feet by four feet, and each shows a growling cat crouching at the base of a huge letter 'Y.' Mr. Collett, former student body president of BYU, is now art instructor in-structor at Weber Junior College. He was graduated from BYU in 1932. The paintings hang above the modern new refreshment centers, located under the north and south ends of the main seating section ! on the east side of the fieldhouse. j Other paintings of the BYU I mascot, the cougar, have been done by Glen Potter, late husband 1 of Mrs. Margaret Potter, present member of the faculty. Mr. Potter's Pot-ter's works hang in several places on the Y campus, and a huge cougar cou-gar painted by him graces the new office of Stan Watts, BYU basket- ; ball mentor. |
