Show St. Louis Cardinals to Hold Baseball Tryout Camp at Timp Park in Provo A St. Louis Cardinal Major League baseball try-out try-out camp will be held at Timp Baseball Park in Provo Thursday. Friday and Saturday. July 7-9, it was an- nounced by Arthur Fetzner, Car-! dinal Tryout Camp director. The Cardinals, who have one of the best farm systems in the majors, ma-jors, will send veteran Cardinal scouts Ken Penner and, Tony Governor Gov-ernor to conduct the workouts. Workouts, open to all players between 17 and 23, ' start each morning at 10. Players need bring only a glove, baseball shoes and a uniform, if possible. All other equipment will be furnished by the St. Louis National Na-tional League team. Many top flight major league ball players were discovered in tryout camps such as this one. Rookie third baseman Ken Boyer, who at the opening of the season was regarded as being one of the top contenders for most valuable rookie of the year was discovered in a tryout camp. Pitcher Harvey Haddix and Bobby Tiefenauer, and the incomparable second baseman Red Schoendienst also had their start in tryout camps. |
