Show Applications for Elk Permits to Be Taken Aug. 15 Sportsmen were reminded today to-day that applications for 1955 elk permits will be received at department de-partment of fish and game offices beginning August 15 through to August .22. Application is by mail only in the special envelope now available from license agents over the state. Envelopes postmarked later than midnight, August 22, will be returned re-turned to the sender. The department said application applica-tion method for the 1,450 elk permits per-mits over thirteen hunting units, as set up by the Utah Board of Big Game Control this year, varied var-ied in only one major respect from the past two years. For the first time two people may make a dual application for elk permits. The board made this ruling following a recommendation recommenda-tion for same from the state's or- ganized sportsmen. The regular elk application envelope en-velope provides for either single or dual application. Where two people wish to hunt together they may include choice of hunting unit, names auu audressds, game license numbers, and double the single fee in one elk application applica-tion envelope. That envelope will be given a single number on the drawing for the district applied for. Should that number be drawn each of the dual applicant would receive a permit to hunt. The department noted that both applicants must apply for either "bull" or "either sex" if permits for any two such animals are scheduled on the unit of their choice. Reason for this regulation is that the single number for the drawings must of necessity go into one type drawing or another. Elk permits may be issued only to bonifide residents of Utah who have purchased a 1955 big game or combination hunting and fishing fish-ing license. The fe of $15 must be in form of a certified check, cashier's check or money order. Personal checks or currency are not acceptable. Successful applicants will be determined at the annual public drawing to be held at 11 a.m. September 2, at the State Capitol building. The general elk season is set 3 for October 1 through 6 with earl- H ier and later hunts scheduled for I some districts. |
