Show Interest Grows In City Softball i League; Games Set Fri., Tues. Interest in the city softball league is picking up momentum with each night of play and judging from last Friday's scores, competition is really keen. Friday night, July 6, two more hot contests "are on the docket with Cal's bumping up against the improved im-proved National Guard club at 7 p.m. Ruff's Garage and Brook-side Brook-side will battle at 8 and should provide plenty of exciting softball. Tuesday, July 10 Ruff and the National Guard clubs play at 7 and Cal's and Brookside Market square off at 8 p.m. Week's Results . . . Friday the league - leading Cal's Used Cars came from behind in their usual manner to defeat Ruff's Garage 6 to 5. Gene Clegg slapped out a nice triple in the last of the seventh inning to score L. Weight for the winning run of the game. Weight also hit three for four at the plate and batted in three runs to lead the winners while Bill King of Ruff's Garage tagged a double and a single, drove in two runs and reportedly assisted in the pitcher heckling department. After being out on maneuvers for a week the National Guard club still had plenty of spirit and fight left to defeat Brokoside. Market Mar-ket 14 to 12 in a free scoring battle saw the Guard get off to a nine-run nine-run lead in the first inning. However How-ever Brookside was not to be taken ta-ken lightly" as they nearly overcame over-came their deficit to make a real game of it. Jimmy Thorn's pitching pitch-ing for the Guard was particularly improved. Records Listed . . .
